11 May ONLINE PREMIERE OF LIGHT OF SOLEDAD’ AS A TRIBUTE TO SANITARIES
As a contribution to the International Nurses Day, which is celebrated on May 12th, and to pay the deserved tribute to the health workers who continue fighting with so much sacrifice against the coronavirus, the film Light of Soledad will be available to be seen on the Internet in four languages for the very first time to rent and / or download.
The film, directed by Pablo Moreno, highlights how, in the great pandemics of the past, so frequent and deadly, it was religious and priests who carried the greatest responsability of taking care for those infected. The risk of death was higher then and a large part of them gave their lives because of their love to Christ and neighbor.
It’s worthy to remind now, which deserves a special tribute, that the first nurses graduated with an official title in Spain were the Servants of Mary, Ministers of the Sick, by Royal Order of Alfonso XIII in 1915. This congregation, founded by the Spanish Saint Soledad Torres Acosta, is today extended by Europe and America.
The initiative to professionalize nursing, carried out until then as a charity, started from Saint Pius X, who in 1911 encouraged Catholic religious and lay women to pursue nursing studies, and founded a specialized school in the Vatican. There were studying the Spanish nuns who later applied for, and obtained for the first time the grade in nursing from the Government of Spain.
This exciting story is told in the movie “Light of Soledad” which Goya Producciones has now decided to release online in Spanish, English, Italian and Portuguese.
